Tired of buying rice milk or can't tolerate brown rice? Try making your own!
  • 1 cup uncooked long grain white rice
  • 8 cups water for cooking
  • More water for diluting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower or canola oil (optional)
  1. Rinse the rice in cold water.
  2. Bring 8 cups water to a boil over high heat.
  3. Pour in the rice and stir.
  4. Cover the pot and lower the heat to let the water simmer.
  5. Cook, covered, for 3 hours.
  6. Remove cooked rice from heat and add the salt and oil. The mixture will look a bit like rice pudding.
  7. Fill a blender about halfway with the rice mixture and halfway with additional water.
  8. Blend until very smooth.
  9. Repeat as needed to blend all the cooked rice with water.
  10. Strain the blended rice mixture twice through a fine mesh strainer into glass air tight jars (e.g. mason jars).
The finished rice milk will be more creamy than commercially purchased rice milk. Dilute with water to achieve the consistency you want.

Add about 4 tablespoons of pure Maple Syrup or 2 teaspoons clear vanilla before blending with the extra water to get a sweeter or vanilla flavored milk.
