Only a few slight changes were needed to turn President Obama's Maple Caramel sauce -- served at the 2013 Inaugural Luncheon -- into this delicious FODMAP Free sauce!
Ingredients
  • 5 tablespoons Earth Balance Buttery Spread (or other lactose-free butter substitute)
  • 3 tablespoons solid coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon almond milk
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup, dark amber
Instructions
  1. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, melt butter substitute and coconut oil.
  2. Add sugar and salt and mix well.
  3. Cook, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely dissolved, reduce heat to medium and boil 2 minutes longer.
  4. Add maple syrup and return to a boil, stirring frequently, until sauce is thick, smooth, and coats a spoon, approximately 2 to 4 minutes longer.
  5. Remove from heat and hold warm for serving.
