Lara Bars


True or False?  FODMAP Free means never eating another granola bar or energy bar.  FALSE!   With the exception of the ones made with apples, we can eat Lara Bars !!    They come in a variety of flavors, including:  banana bread, blueberry muffin, lemon bar, key lime pie, ginger snap and more.  I haven’t tried all of them, including the chocolate ones, so be sure to read the ingredients carefully and skip those with apples, lactose and a lot of sugar.

    I thought that dates were high fructose and thus not allowed on the FODMAP diet ? Would love to be able to eat Larabars!!


      That’s a great comment. You are absolutely right, dates (like bananas and grapes) are high in fructose and high fructose can be a FODMAP problem. While I react immediately to even a little bit of onion or garlic, I am symptom-free when it comes to eating a Lara Bar. Perhaps because the portion is so small (I only eat one). I can also tolerate having a banana a day … which I do in my smoothie, and can eat a small bunch of grapes and have no reaction.

      Do you react to bananas or grapes? You may want to give a Lara Bar a try to see if you can tolerate the dates.

      The more I learn about FODMAPs, the more I realize that each sufferer is a little different and there are almost always exceptions to what each person can and cannot tolerate.

    I am just starting the low,fodmap diet.When i look at the labels of gluten free bread they all have something that is a no no. What brand of bread is good?


      We like Rudi’s. It’s usually sold frozen.

    My wife (who has IBS) searched high and low for protein bars that were truly FODMAP Friendly – no dates, no honey, no agave, no inulin, no dried fruit, etc.

    So we made our own – we’re selling them at for those interested.
